Gejdošová, Iva ; Soukeník, Štěpán (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
This bachelor thesis titled 'Social Media and Gender in Political Campaigns: The Role of Candidate's Spouses in the Czech Republic' is an exploratory work which analyses how potential first ladies were portrayed on Facebook whilst their husbands, candidates in the 2018 Czech presidential election, ran their official campaigns. The objective was to uncover the role assigned to female spouses during the campaigns, how the women were constrained by traditionally feminine roles and to whom is their presence affecting. This thesis utilises the method of content analysis, which is employed not only as a mere data gathering tool to detect the textual side of posts, but also applied visually. A coding instrument which used Goffman's (1979) Gender displays was employed to detect the visual frames of the First lady. The textual portion of Facebook communication was sorted based on the mentioning of a spouse and then further examined using a coding sheet consisting of a total of 13 variables. By analysing Facebook posts published by each candidate during the official campaign, the thesis aims to depict how potential first ladies were depicted in traditional female roles, constrained by norms, and with no further role in the political process. The practical assessment of the paper crucially demonstrates the...

The Role of Kenyan Woman
Beranová, Zuzana ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Kandert, Josef (referee) ; Horáková, Hana (referee)
What is the life of Kenyan women like? In Kenya, like many African countries, a deep paradox has been created. Kenyan women enjoy the benefits of modern life, yet their lives are largely determined by customary law. Although the majority of Kenyan women do not live in traditional society, they are still perceived within their traditional roles. Modern society has different requirements than the traditional ones, however only the segment of -self-confident and informed citizens are aware of their rights and are able to assert their rights. While women compose the majority of the Kenyan population (52%) and play an active role in the development of the whole society, Kenya still continues to remain a deep patriarchal society with a very low regard of the status of women. Women in Kenya are unequal and under-privileged in most areas of their lives. This situation is propounded by the current legal and political system, as well as by prevailing socio-cultural factors. The dissertation examines the different roles of the Kenyan woman - as a daughter, a wife and a mother. The main philosophical ideology which the African society is based upon is the continuation of life and keeping the patrilineal lineage where dead ancestors play the same role as children born to the family. It is presumed that women who play an...

Ideal representation of women in old Czech legend of St. Elizabeth
KOLÁŘOVÁ, Markéta
The diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of the woman's ideal during the High Middle Ages, how it was represented by St. Elizabeth of Hungary as the main character of the old-Bohemian Život svaté Alžběty that was credited to Tomáš Štítný ze Štítného. Elizabeth belongs to a new type of saintesses which during the contemporary times embodied important ideals of Christianity (above all poverty and love toward a fellowman realized by charitable and social work) and they offered a model for some overshadowed aspects of feminity (mainly a model of a perfect wife and a widow). We concentrate especially on the formation of the main character in all three women's statuses typical for the Middle Ages, that is virginity, married life and viduity, and also on the revision of their traditional hierarchy in the Elizabethean hagiography.
